David Trubridge made Officer of the NZ Order of Merit for services to design

Congratulations to renowned designer, David Trubridge

Congratulations to renowned furniture designer David Trubridge who was awarded the NZ Order of Merit for services to design appointed by Queen Elizabeth II in the 2019 Queens Birthday Honours.

David's work came to prominence in 2001 when the Italian design house Cappellini bought the rights for Body Raft. The Coral light followed in 2004 for DTL, establishing a blueprint for kit-set products that minimised environmental footprint.

Global recognition

David's designs have featured in countless international publications including the most influential, as an instigator of the trend of 'raw sophistication' and as an exemplar of environmentally responsible design. In 2008 the French magazine Express listed him as one of the top 15 designers in the world, and in 2012 the Pompidou Centre in Paris purchased his 'Icarus' installation for its permanent collection.

Environmental sensitivity as a driving force

Despite such success and acclaim, David describes himself as a "country boy from a small town in New Zealand" and continues his pursuit of environmental sensitivity as the driving force for his design.

PLN Group's Hush acoustic light family was designed in association with David Trubridge Design Studio using recycled PET bottles and embodies both the design and ecological principles that have helped propel David to worldwide recognition. We are proud of David and commend him on this latest award.
